Walbrzych was once the capital of Walbrzych Voivodship, but since 1995 it is in the Lower Silesian Voivodship. Situated near the Czech border high up in the Sudety Mountains, it is a small rural town with mostly agricultural area and woodlands. Recently a new economic zone has developed and tourists flock to visit the coal mines, the Kiasz castle and the several other monuments around the area. In addition, Walbrych has many institutions of Higher education for which the town is famous.
