More about Podhale

Podhale means the 'mountain meadows'. It is a region where the typical Polish traditions and folklore has been guarded with a patriotic fervor making it distinct and attractive. Throughout the region, you will find charming sleepy villages with steep-roofed wooden houses decorated colorfully with painted flowers and people dressed in the traditional embroidered costumes. Podhale is characterized by beautiful landscapes and many popular national parks.

People living here are the Highlanders who speak their own dialect and have a strong emotional attachment to the place. The Spisz area in Podhale remained under Hungarian control for centuries. Lenin is said to have been briefly imprisoned herein1914.

The most convenient way to get to Zakopane is by train - a 3 hour journey from Krakow. You can also reach Podhale by car from Krakow. However, it is a 100km. long road and often crowded, this makes the tour flexible and you can explore the many sights on the way at your own pace.
