A castle in Szczecin, Poland

Located in the northwest of Poland, lies the city of Szczecin. It is the largest city in this region of the country. It stands where the river Odra meets the Baltic Sea. Its unique geographical location is the reason for its status as a junction for major European transit routes. It is also the capital of Western Pomerania.

The recorded history of Szczecin dates back about a thousand years. Its past has been steeped in turbulence and tradition. Tragically, much of its art and architecture was destroyed during the Second World War. However, a lot of reconstruction has taken place since then, ensuring that Szczecin has a lot to offer the tourist. The city's Secessional architecture has been preserved. There are some historical landmarks, reminiscent of the times when Szczecin, as a part of Prussia was called the 'Paris of the North'.

Don't leave out Szczecin from your trip itinerary when you visit Poland.
