Nicolaus Copernicus (1473-1543)
Astronomer, credited for being the first to develop a heliocentric theory of the solar system. He published his discoveries in the year of his death in the work 'On the Revolutions of the Celestial Spheres' (De revolutionibus orbium coelestium).
